Dhanbad, Aug 25: For the first time, the Indian badminton team’s coach Sachin Rana will hone the skills of young badminton coaches of Jharkhand to provide proper training to budding talents.
The week-long special camp will be held at Jamshedpur next month under the supervision of the Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA).
Sachin Rana, who has been the coach of the Indian team in junior and senior World Championship, Asian Championship besides in over 10 international tournaments, admitted that he would impart scientific knowledge of coaching to young coaches of the state.
For the camp, Sachin Rana has already shortlisted the names of Rahul Kumar and Kishore Kunal (Ranchi), Mukesh Kumar (Giridih), and Md Wahid (Lohardagga), Ravi Kesri (Jamshedpur) and Sandip Dey (Dhanbad).
Rana admitted that the standard of the coaches in Jharkhand is not at par with the level of top states but at the same time he also claimed that regular training camps would help in improving the quality. “Quality of coach would bring the quality of players. So I aim to upgrade coaching standards in the state,” he said.
Rana said Odisha has recently taken his service for the training of 20 coaches. “So I decided to hold a similar camp in our own state (Jharkhand) to groom the young badminton coaches,” he added.
Sachin Rana, who has discharged responsibility as coach of Indian junior and senior team in World and Asian Championship in International tournaments held in Germany, Netherlands, China, Canada, Indonesia and South Korea, said that the Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) general secretary K Prabhakar Rao endorsed his project and has assured to extend full cooperation in honing the skill of coaches.
“I have not only got permission from JBA general secretary but also suggested him to send young coaches as an assistant coach with state team in the national tournament for learning and training,” he said.
At Bhubaneswar camp, he took Rahul Kumar and Kishore Kunal of Ranchi as his assistant coaches for learning.
Ravi Kesri has completed one year INS course while Rahul Kumar and Kishore Kumar have one week course. Official sources in JBA said that the association has focused on coaching players. After 12 years, seasoned coach of Ranchi Bharat Shah and Vivek Sharma of Jamshedpur, who have made several national ranking players for Jharkhand, have been assigned the responsibility as state team coach for East Zone Championship to be held in Gorakhpur next month.
Sachin Rana learnt coaching from famous Murli Krishna (who guided K Srikanth and PV Sindhu) and Sanjay Mishra. He said he would try to provide coaching of states interested and young coaches at Prakash Padukone Centre in Bengaluru.
