New Delhi, Jan 24: Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said on Monday that he had tested positive for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). He also stated on Twitter that there is no need for fear and that he is following his doctor’s treatment recommendations.

“I request all those who have been in contact with me in the past few days to get themselves tested and take all necessary precautions,” the veteran politician added.

Over the last few weeks, the virus has infected a number of political leaders in its most recent phase. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu announced a day ago that he had got the virus and would be isolated for a week. He also advised his close associates to get checked and isolate themselves.

In recent weeks, 875 members of the Parliament House staff have tested positive for Covid-19. With only a few days until the start of the Budget session on January 31, a decision will be made on whether both Houses of Parliament will sit simultaneously or in separate shifts.

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president HD Deve Gowda tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, according to reports. He is clinically stable and responding to treatment, according to Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru.

The virus has lately struck Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, and his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar.
