New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to release the revised merit list for NEET-UG 2024 soon. Candidates will be able to access their updated scorecards on the official website, https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/NEET2024SCRevised.html#, once they are available.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had earlier stated that the final results for NEET-UG 2024 would be announced within two days following the Supreme Court’s observations.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed the NTA to retract compensatory marks previously awarded to a select group of students for a Physics question. The court ruled that only one correct answer out of the four options should be considered valid. Consequently, students who initially scored a perfect 720 out of 720 will now lose four marks.

This decision came after a student highlighted that “Question No. 29” in the Physics section had two possible correct answers, contradicting the requirement for only one correct response.

The Supreme Court instructed the Director of IIT Delhi to form a team of three experts and submit a report on the correct answer for the disputed Physics question. Based on IIT Delhi’s findings, the court decreed, “For the Physics question on atomic theory, marks will be awarded for only one answer, which is option No. 4.”

Initially, the NTA had decided to grant extra marks to students who answered incorrectly due to an error in their old class 12 NCERT science textbook. However, the Supreme Court ruled that only one correct answer would be accepted, and no compensatory marks would be awarded for other responses.

The court also dismissed multiple petitions seeking the cancellation and retest of the NEET-UG 2024 exam. Chief Justice Chandrachud noted there was no evidence of systemic leaks or other malpractices related to the exam.

The NTA has been embroiled in political controversy and faced protests from students over alleged widespread malpractices, including question paper leaks and impersonation during the test held on May 5.

The NEET-UG 2024 results, announced on June 4, were notable as 67 students scored a perfect 720 out of 720. The exam saw participation from 1,331,321 female candidates, 996,393 male candidates, and 17 transgender candidates.
