Neonatal OPD for newborns begins at RIMS Ranchi

Ranchi, Feb 9: The Neonatal OPD has started its services at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) after its inauguration today by RIMS Director Dr. Kameshwar Prasad to provide comprehensive quality care of the highest level to every newborn.

At present, the neonatal OPD will operate every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. where experienced doctors related to neonatology will provide their services.

In the future for the follow-up of High-risk newborns, a neurodevelopment clinic will be established.

The Department of Neonatology was established in March 2020 with 3 faculty- Dr. Kiran Shankar Das as a Head of Department, Dr. Rameshwar Prasad & Dr. Prita Naaz Dubraj.

Since March 2021, Dr. (Prof.) Minni Rani Akhouri has been the Head of the Department.

It is the first separate Department from Pediatrics in the state which was established to provide comprehensive & quality care to the neonates of Jharkhand & adjoining states.

This Department along with the Department of OBG has been designated as Jharkhand state maternal & Newborn Health resource center & provides mentorship for the SNCU’S of Jharkhand.

With a vision to provide every newborn equal opportunity to attain its ability to the fullest and should be provided with the best environment of care and to reduce neonatal mortality & morbidity and to get the best neurodevelopment outcome Department of Neonatology was established.
