Ranchi, Jan 1: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the attack on former MLA Gurcharan Nayak. NIA has filed a charge sheet in this regard. NIA investigation has revealed that the accused persons are members of the CPI maoist, and that they participated in the meetings where the conspiracy to target former MLA Nayak was hatched.

The CPI members then committed the crime which led to injury and death of police personnel and loot of arms and ammunition. Investigation has also revealed that the accused person Shaka alias Tiwari Bankira was involved in recruiting members for Naxalite activities and conducting training camps.

Further investigation is going on in the matter. Top maoist leader Shaka alias Tiwari Bankira was arrested by the NIA on December 1, 2022. Tiwari was an armed cadre of CPI maoist and had hatched the plan along with other co-accused.

On the day of the incident on January 4, 2022, naxalites attacked former MLA Gurcharan Nayak, who was attending a sports function organised at Jhilruan Maidan. The Naxalites surrounded the three bodyguards of the former MLA present in the field as Nayak fled in the crowd. Nayak’s bodyguards tried to fight off the Naxalites, but failed as they looted the weapons. Naxalites killed two of the three bodyguards Shankar Nayak and Thakur Hembram. A bodyguard could save his life only by running away in an injured state.

The NIA had registered an FIR in the Ranchi branch against Misir Besra (with a prize of Rs 1 crore on his head), Raghu, Ashwin, Chandan, Mochu, Sushant, Sagen, Kande Honhaga and Sonaram Honhaga in the month of July, 2022. All the accused belong to Goilkera in West Singhbhum. During the investigation, the Jharkhand Police revealed that the attack on former MLA Nayak was well planned.

The Naxalites aimed to loot the weapons off of the bodyguards of the former MLA.
