Jamshedpur, May 17: In a breakthrough against bike lifting cases, the police on Wednesday arrested nine persons having recovered six two-wheelers from them from in and around Jamshedpur.
While five of those nabbed were indulged in vehicle-lifting, the remaining four were arrested for buying stolen two-wheelers.
Revealing the breakthrough, City SP, K Vijay Shankar said that the bike-lifters gang was following the detection of a motorcycle theft committed in the Golmuri thana area on May 17.
“On May 16, a complaint of bike theft was registered with the Golmuri thana, leading the senior police officers to instruct the Golmuri thana OC, Arvind Kumar to set up a special team for detection of the case as the incidents of bike-lifting were rising here, ” said Vijay Shankar while addressing a press conference here today.
He pointed out that eventually, the special team succeeded to nab one of the thieves from whom a stolen bike was recovered.
“Later on being interrogated, the arrested thief spilled the bins about the gang which had stolen as many as six two-wheelers from different locations of the city during the past few days only, ” said the City SP.
He stated that four persons, including two from West Singhbhum district, were arrested because they had bought as many bikes from the bike-lifters despite knowing that the vehicles were stolen.
