NIT Jamshedpur gets new chairman of Board of Governors

Jamshedpur, Sept 5: T. Krishna Prasad, IPS (Retd.) 1986 Batch former DGP and Chairman, Road Safety Authority, Telangana has been nominated as the new chairperson of the Board of Governors (BOGs) of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.

He was nominated by the President of India with effect from August 25.

The new chairperson will be visiting the NIT campus tomorrow, September 6 wherein he will interact with students, faculty members and media.

He will also address a meeting at the Board Room on the campus.

T Krishna Prasad, a mechanical engineer from REC Warangal (1983) did a master’s from IIM Ahmedabad (1985) and got selected into IPS in 1986. He obtained an LLB in 2016 and pursued a PhD afterwards.

As a distinguished IPS officer, he served the country for 34 years as CID chief, IGP Computers, SP in four districts and DIG for two ranges.

He is responsible for the computerization of the Police in India, in 2012. In 2020, he authored the National Road Safety Plan for the Government of India. He retired as DGP and Chairman Road Safety Authority in March 2020.

While working in Naxal areas, he effected the surrender of 511 Naxals and is popularly called as surrender specialist.

He is a recipient of the prestigious Indian Police Medal, President Police Medal and Internal Security Medal.
