No Protests Without Permission in Ranchi for 60 Days, Section 163 Imposed

Ranchi: Starting May 6, Ranchi administration has imposed Section 163 for the next 60 days, prohibiting all forms of protests, rallies, or public gatherings without prior permission in key parts of the city. The order is aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing disruption of law and order.

Restrictions near sensitive locations

According to the administration, many organisations were recently ignoring the designated protest site at Zakir Hussain Park and gathering near sensitive zones like the Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister’s residence, and Secretariat buildings, posing risks to government functioning and traffic.

Areas under Section 163 restrictions:

Within 100 metres of the Chief Minister’s residence Within 100 metres of Raj Bhavan (excluding Zakir Hussain Park) Within 100 metres of Jharkhand High Court 500 metres around the new Assembly building 100 metres around Project Bhavan and Nepal House 200 metres around HEC, Dhurwa’s Project Bhavan

Activities prohibited without permission:

Public gatherings, protests, rallies, or processions Carrying weapons such as guns, sticks, bows and arrows Use of loudspeakers or sound systems without official approval

Exemptions include:

Government employees on duty Judicial tasks Religious events and funerals

The order will remain in effect till July 4 or until further notice.
