New Delhi: An Indian Army soldier was martyred on Thursday after Pakistan resumed unprovoked ceasefire violations for the second consecutive day along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment lost his life during the shelling, according to an official statement from the White Knight Corps. “The GOC and all ranks of White Knight Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, who laid down his life in the line of duty on May 7, 2025. We stand with the victims of the targeted attacks on innocent civilians in Poonch sector,” the unit posted on social media platform X.
Pakistan Reacts After Operation Sindoor
The shelling is seen as a reaction to India’s Operation Sindoor, which destroyed multiple terror launch pads across the border earlier this week. In retaliation, Pakistan has intensified firing on civilian areas, using small arms, mortars, and artillery along multiple LoC sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor.
According to defence sources, mortars were fired into residential villages, with reports confirming 15 civilian deaths and 43 injuries so far in the Poonch and Tangdhar sectors. In Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, Indian forces neutralised a Pakistani infiltrator last night.
Army on High Alert, Leaves Cancelled
The Indian Army has responded strongly to cross-border shelling, and has placed all units in the Kashmir region on high alert. Control rooms have been activated in 10 districts, and all administrative leaves for government employees have reportedly been cancelled in Jammu & Kashmir.
The escalating hostilities follow India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror training camps across the border. Pakistan’s aggressive response has renewed fears of further escalation along the LoC.
