Ranchi, Sept.24: The state where a judge can die after having been hit by an auto-rickshaw during less traffic hour is least bothered about posting of a regular S.P.(traffic) in the capital city.

This came to the fore after a section of traffic constables was heard discussing the problem they are facing due to the absence of a regular S.P for traffic management in the city that has 120 traffic posts and several VIPs whose movement seek additional traffic care.

“Traffic management in the capital is a little difficult.  Apart from regular regulation of traffic, collection of fines from traffic rule violators, time to time special deputation is required during VVIP movement. A regular S.P helps a lot in this planning but the state capital does not have regular S.P. (traffic) since August 6,” one of the traffic constables said, sharing his problem.

Other traffic personnel echoed the same: “Out of 350 traffic personnel, as many as 150 have been released for training. Now you can easily imagine the situation.  How come 200 traffic onstables can manage 120 posts? In this situation when the death of a judge by a push of an auto-rickshaw is being probed by the CBI, we are worried thinking what will happen in case a similar incident takes place in the capital.”

Officials at the office of traffic SP said: “After Anjani Anjan, a 2017 batch IPS officer was posted as S.P in Latehar district, Dy.SP (traffic) Jeetvahan Oraon was given charge of S.P (traffic). He worked in the capacity of S.P from August 6 to August 13. On August 14, Reeshma Rameshan, an IPS of the same batch working as ASP (composite control room) was given an additional charge of S.P.(traffic). Since then, traffic personnel in the district have been working under her.”

Usually, an additional charge makes an officer uncomfortable but when contacted Rameshan for her comment, she said she does not have any problem. “I do not have any problem working with an additional charge,” she said sitting at her office.

Home department officials did not give any indication regarding the posting of a regular S.P.(traffic) in Jharkhand capital. “In case of any posting it will be notified,” an official said.
