Daltonganj, May 3: A member of the advisory committee set up by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to suggest and monitor the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR), Shailesh Prasad,  a retired PCCF UP, is due to arrive in the tiger reserve late at night today.

Way back in April 2022, the National Tiger Conservation Authority had set up a three-member advisory committee involving two retired PCCFs one each of UP and Jharkhand Shailesh Prasad and Pradeep Kumar respectively with one senior scientist of the Wild Life Institute of India Dehradun, K Ramesh.

This advisory committee is to assess and provide technical inputs for the revival of the PTR.

Chief conservator of forest and field director of the PTR Kumar Ashutosh said we expect him to be with us here for four days.

He said he is visiting the PTR to explore the possibility and chances of further improvising the grasslands here.

The PTR has around 1,000 hectares of grassland spanning over two divisions of the tiger reserve comprising 8 ranges.

Kumar Ashutosh said grassland is a very important requisite for the growth and rise of the prey base as weak grassland means a weak prey base.

He said Shailesh Prasad will be holding interactive sessions with the ground staff,  the forest guards and above just to have a broader perspective of the grasslands here.
