Birbhum: In a disturbing incident that has further heightened the tension in West Bengal, a nurse at the Ilambazar Health Center in Birbhum was allegedly molested by a patient while on duty late Saturday night. This incident comes at a time when the state government is already under scrutiny for its handling of the shocking rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The accused, who had been admitted for treatment, reportedly touched the nurse inappropriately while she was administering saline in the emergency department. Despite the presence of his family members, the patient allegedly molested the nurse and verbally abused her.
“The male patient misbehaved with me, touching me inappropriately in my private parts while I was simply following the doctor’s instructions,” the nurse recounted, highlighting the lack of security in the hospital. “Such incidents occur due to a lack of security. Otherwise, how can a patient dare to do such a thing in the presence of his family members who did nothing to stop him?” she added.
The incident sparked immediate tension within the health center, prompting the authorities to call the police. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the accused patient.
This incident adds to the ongoing outrage in West Bengal, following the brutal murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College on August 9. The case has triggered widespread protests, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding justice and criticizing the ruling Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for alleged inaction.
The recent events have raised serious questions about the security of healthcare workers in state-run hospitals, with increasing reports of misconduct and illegal activities within these institutions.
