Police claim that on May 4 at the Chhatrasal Stadium in the nation’s capital, the 37-year-old champion wrestler and his companions attacked 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar and his two friends. They all need hospitalisation. Later, Dhankar passed away from his wounds.
According to the Delhi Police’s status report, the accused is the mastermind behind the current case and collaborated with other co-accused to kidnap the victims from various locations using weapons and men, including infamous criminals from Haryana and Delhi.
Sushil Kumar sought protection from arrest on May 18 of last year, stating that the investigation against him was unfair and that he was not responsible for any injuries the victim had sustained. However, the judge rejected his anticipatory bail request, stating that the charges against him were severe and that he was “prima facie the chief conspirator.”
In March of this year, Delhi Police filed an opposition to Sushil Kumar’s bail request in Delhi High Court, claiming that one of the case’s witnesses had requested protection from the champion wrestler and his colleagues because they were so afraid of them.
