Islamabad, Dec 23: A horrific suicide bombing has been reported close to a posh market, a university, and a government office complex in Pakistan’s capital city of Islamabad. An anti-terrorist special team has been dispatched right away.

According to information cited by Geo News, a car explosion that was reported from the I-10 region of Islamabad resulted in the injury of a police officer.

The Islamabad police said in a tweet that the police were conducting a snap-checking when they saw a suspicious vehicle. “A suicide bomber aboard the vehicle detonated himself soon after the car stopped near the officers,” it said.

Television images displayed the burning wreckage of a car along with a strong police presence. Further details are awaited.

Earlier, following a recent uptick in terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Islamabad police said in a statement that its Eagle Squad had searched 2,024 suspicious people, motorcycles, and vehicles as a security measure.
