Hazaribag, Aug 6: A pickup van laden with tomatoes coming from Nepal and going to Ranchi overturned at Charhi Valley on NH-33 which is known as the Ranchi-Patna highway. Due to this, tomatoes loaded on this vehicle turned turtle making villagers gather there and loot it. But the police reached on time foiling the plan of the villagers.

Sources said at around 5 am on Sunday, the pickup van was on its way to Ranchi. Near Charhi Valley, the driver of the pickup van applied the brakes all of a sudden. Due to this, the driver lost control of the vehicle making it to overturn. This made tomatoes scatter on the road.

Due to the high prices of tomatoes, there was a crowd to loot it. People reached there with baskets and containers and started collecting tomatoes. The driver and the helper were opposing it. But many succeeded in taking away several kgs of tomatoes. Due to this, the traffic was interrupted for some time. Police reached the spot and removed the pickup van from the road, only then the traffic became normal. Due to the police reaching on time, maximum tomatoes were saved from the crowd.
