Ranchi, July 11: A paddy dealer, Roshan Bhagat, sustained two bullet injuries after three assailants, not identified so far, opened fire on him after talking to him for some time.
The incident took place at Banjari market, about 30km from here, under the Bundu police station area. The matter of discussion could not be ascertained so far. Bhagat has been admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment.
Bundu sub divisional police officer Ajay Kumar confirmed the incident saying the ‘probe is on.’
A locality resident said assailants had come on a bike and zip zap zoomed after opening the fire on Bhagat. As police got information, they rushed to the spot to take him to the hospital. Bhagat took bullets at his chest and thigh and was critical when being taken to hospital.
S.P(rural) Naushad Alam said that the miscreants took away a cash box from Bhagat’s shop attached with his residence.
“Primary investigation suggests that it was an incident of loot. Miscreants opened fire when Bhagat did not hand over cash to him on demand. However, there is one more angle associated with the business of opium. It is being probed,” Alam said.
