Patna: As counting continued for the Bankipur assembly bypoll, RJD’s executive president Tejashwi Yadav visited the famous Baba Hariharnath Temple in Sonpur on Monday, the first Somwari of Sawan, and offered prayers, praying for peace, prosperity and the welfare of all people in the state.
Prashant Kishor Leads After Second Round of Counting
According to the second round of counting, Jan Suraaj Party candidate Prashant Kishor was leading by 1,161 votes, having secured 3,795 votes so far, while BJP stood second with 2,634 votes and RJD was in third place with 664 votes.
Tejashwi Performs Jalabhishek, Shares Photos on Social Media
Ahead of the bypoll results, Tejashwi Yadav performed a formal jalabhishek at the temple and later shared photographs from his visit on X, writing that he had sought Baba Hariharnath’s blessings on the auspicious occasion of the first Somwari of Sawan and prayed for peace, brotherhood, development and prosperity in Bihar. He also met devotees and locals present at the temple premises, appealing to all Shiv devotees and kanwariyas to undertake their journey safely and peacefully and return home without incident, ending his post with the greeting “Har Har Mahadev, Jai Bholenath.”
Tejashwi Urges Administration to Ensure Smooth Kanwar Yatra
Speaking to the media after leaving the temple, Tejashwi Yadav said he hoped the first Monday of Sawan would bring good fortune to everyone, adding that with a large number of devotees currently undertaking the Kanwar Yatra, the administration should ensure that no pilgrim faces any difficulty and that all devotees complete their journey safely.
Counting Underway in Closely Contested Bankipur Bypoll
The Bankipur bypoll was necessitated after BJP leader Nitin Nabin resigned as MLA following his appointment as the party’s national president, vacating the seat. Voting took place on July 30, with a close three-way contest between RJD’s Rekha Gupta, BJP’s Neeraj Sinha and Jan Suraaj’s Prashant Kishor. Counting is currently underway at AN College in Patna, with Prashant Kishor leading at this stage, as all eyes remain fixed on the final results.
