Dumka, March 7: New officer-in-charge (OC) of Hiranpur police station of Pakur district Santosh Kumar assumed charge on Monday on the directive of SP Hrudeep P Janardhanan.
The Pakur SP had on Sunday suspended the officer-in-charge of the Hiranpur police station Madan Kumar and the sub-inspector (SI) Jafar Alam on charges of gross indiscipline and professional misconduct.
Both Kumar and Alam had allegedly indulged in fighting with each other after a heated exchange of words over some issues at the Hiranpur police station on Saturday which was substantiated in separate probes ordered by the SP.
“The officer-in-charge of Hiranpur police station Madan Kumar and the SI Jafar Alam have been suspended as both were found equally guilty of committing indiscipline and professional misconduct,” the SP said, adding that they started fighting each other over a minor issue.
Both the ‘errant’ cops however had received minor injuries in the scuffle when other policemen present there could anyhow manage to separate them.
The suspended officer-in-charge, meanwhile, has remained controversial on previous occasions also and has earned disrepute to the police department in terms of indulging in high-handedness while discharging official duty.
Rumours are also going around that the fight between both the suspended cops erupted following a dispute over the distribution of bribe money.
The probe into the fighting incident was separately conducted by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar Vimal and the police inspector Prabhu Sahay Ekka following which both the OC and the SI were suspended by the SP on Sunday.
The process of initiating departmental proceedings against both of them is also on the anvil, the SP added.
