Daltonganj, May 10: A Bachelor of Arts degree awarded by the Nilamber Pitamber University ran into controversy following a gaffe in its bilingual version.
In the English version of the degree, it is written: “the day admitted the degree.” It carries no sense besides it being a grammatical error.
The stock in trade expression on degrees issued by various universities in India reads “on this day admitted to the degree.”
Apart from this fuss about the grammar mistake, there is one more blatant discrepancy. In the English version of the text on the degree, it is shown to be of Sanskrit subject while in the Hindi version of the same degree, the subject mentioned is Psychology.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of NPU Dr Deep Narayan Yadav on being contacted said had there been ‘admitted to the degree’ written, then there would not have been any point as being raised now.
Yadav said he would bring this gaffe to the cognizance of the vice-chancellor Dr Ram Lakhan Singh. “This has to be verified how there is a mismatch of the subject. There is always a room for correction and this will be set right,” he said.
The student who is in receipt of the degree can submit this to the university which the university will retract for correction and amendment.
“We need a thorough verification of it if the alleged mismatch between the subjects Sanskrit and Psychology is genuine or any manufactured one as the name of the recipient of the said degree has been whitened with whitener,” he said.
Yadav assured that the university is committed to safeguarding the academic interest and potential of its students. Such errors which creep on can be easily set right and the beneficiary should not worry about it.
