Daltonganj, Dec 28: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday distributed around 50 teams jersey, boots, and football to 750 footballers in Palamu at the end of the celebration held for the passing out parade of 554 jawans of the 10 IRB in the JAP 8 battalion ground in Lesliganj.
While giving the information late at night on Tuesday, Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said the chief minister looked quite sportive while giving away the gifts to the players.
The CM just handed down freebies to only 2 teams drawn from the interiors of Palamu as a token of appreciation. The sports freebies were given under the Community Policing Scheme.
However, there was no girls’ football team partaking in these freebies under the aegis of the Community Policing Scheme when if the selectors found time to visit some girls’ high schools in Chainpur block only, there would have emerged a couple of smart girls’ team of the football game.
In rural Palamu, there is a great craze for football, unlike cricket which too is played more in urban and semi-urban areas with brick columns doubling up as stumps.
The Poto Ho Khel Vikas Yojna has got readied nearly 200 playgrounds in different panchayats of Palamu which give a great impetus to football and this arming of 50 football teams under the Community Policing Scheme with entire kit for the football game, is set to go up.
