Daltonganj, Jan 22: A panchayat in Palamu saved a situation which could have turned highly violent.
A young married tribal woman (named withheld) was caught in a compromising position with a young dalit youth at village Goindee under the Kasmar police outpost in Palamu.
Mukhiya of the Goindee panchayat Parikkhan Paswan said that the youth was overpowered but no harm was done to him.
The youth hails from the Panki police station area while the tribal married woman comes from the Kasmar police outpost.
The mukhiya said it was a consensual relationship between both but despite this the issue was explosive and anything could have happened there. The woman’s husband lives in Gujarat.
The panchayat phoned her husband who point blank refused to accept his wife’s action.
The panchayat then went to the police outpost Kasmar which too said as this issue is a civil family issue, it should be settled within the panchayat.
After much discussion, Mukhiya Parikkhan Paswan said the panchayat released the youth to reach his house under the Panki police station and decided to hand over the tribal married woman to her father who lives at Ekta village under the Manika police station in Latehar district.
The mukhiya said the tribal woman would be restored to her parents at Ekta village late in the afternoon today.
