Daltonganj, Feb 5: In a first, Palamu police organised a poem recitation competition for children of the region.
Children who recited poems had to prepare a video clip and send it to a designated police officer. The deadline for sending the clips was February 4, 10 a.m.
Sources said that the poetry recitation competition among the children was the brainchild of Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha.
Speaking to lagatar24.com the SP said, “We selected three poems in Hindi. Their poets were well acknowledged in the literary arena.”
The three poets were Dwarika Prasad Maheshwari, Jai Shankar Prasad and Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. Children were segmented in three class groups like 5-7, 8-10 and 11-12. One poem of the poet Maheshwari was allotted to class 5-7. Similarly, one poem of Jai Shankar Prasad for class 8-10 and one poem of Dinkar for class 11-12.
“None of the three poems given to the children were boring or tedious but thoughtful. There were certain words in the poems which must have forced the children to look for its meaning in Hindi ShabdKosh,” the SP added.
The poems were replete with the themes of love for the country, humanity, forgiveness, mercy, tolerance and fortitude not to accept defeat no matter how great the problem.
The SP said that the response to poetry recitation competitions was overwhelming. “We got more than 600 video clips of children reciting poems in their own homely surrounding. We observed their accuracy and accent. Pitch and pause were also noticed. Pronunciation of words in a poem is a very important ingredient and we focused on that too,” said the SP.
18 children who had recited poems were judged good among a lot of more than 600 children. SP Sinha felicitated most of the successful children on the day of the Basant Panchami today in Daltonganj. Children of remote police stations like Pipra, Naudiha, Haidernagar and other places took part in it.
