Ranchi, June 24: Police investigating Pandra double murder case has got trapped between evidence and statement.

A police official informed this saying while the FSL team collected only one fingerprint from the spot and that matches with another youth Arpit, mother of the deceased, Chanda Singh, is naming Rahul as an accused and saying there are three involved in the murder.

“It is a peculiar situation. Our information through evidence suggests that Arpit was with Shweta Singh in a room before he committed murders,” sources close to police said.

Explaining why the murder was committed, a police official said: “As Shweta’s mother Chanda Singh noticed Arpit in her daughter’s room she objected. On which Arpit attacked her. When Shewta’s brother Praveen came to her rescue, he was also killed. As Shweta objected to Arpit, the latter killed her.”

“Now the attempt is on to arrest Arpit. Apart from this, CCTV footage of different locations is being watched and call dumps are being collected to ascertain the correctness of Chanda Singh’s statement and match with forensic evidence,” the police official said.

Contacted Dy S.P (Kotwali) Prakash Soy for his comment on the matter, he expressed his inability to say anything on the matter.

“The matter is under investigation. It is difficult to give any conclusive statement right now. Let the probe get completed for a clear picture to emerge. We are intent on making a breakthrough in the case soon,” he said.

Information coming so far suggests that three young people broke into the Singh family’s home on June 18 in the early hours as Chanda was cleaning up before she left for the temple. Shweta was the first to be killed, followed by her brother, who had come to her aid. Once they knew she had passed away, they attacked Chanda Singh and fled the house.

They locked the house from the inside and the outside, then fled by leaping off the roof. The deceased’s maternal grandpa, who lived just about 500 metres away, was alerted of the incident when neighbours spotted blood pouring out of the house and felt danger. Later, the deceased’s father who lives and works outside of India was also informed.
