Mumbai: Former India pacer Paras Mhambrey is set to make a return to Mumbai Indians’ (MI) coaching staff, the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions confirmed on Wednesday. Mhambrey, who previously had a successful stint with MI, will now work closely with bowling coach Lasith Malinga, under the leadership of Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene.
Mhambrey’s return to MI comes after a successful period as India’s bowling coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach. His time with the Indian team culminated in a triumphant T20 World Cup campaign in June this year. Following that, Dravid’s tenure, along with his coaching staff, concluded, making way for Gautam Gambhir to take over as India’s head coach.
Hailing from Mumbai, Mhambrey has deep ties with the MI franchise, having been part of the coaching setup during their victorious campaigns in IPL 2013 and the Champions League T20 (2011 and 2013). He is a former right-arm pacer who played two Tests and three ODIs for India and featured in 91 first-class matches for Mumbai.
“We’re thrilled to have Paras back with the Mumbai Indians family. He’s worked closely with our boys in the past, and we are super excited to have him return to the Blue and Gold,” read an official statement from MI.
Mhambrey’s vast experience and close association with MI are expected to add depth to the team’s bowling unit as they prepare for the next IPL season.
