New Delhi, Oct 18: The Ethics Committee of Parliament will hear on October 26 the case of ‘cash for query’ complaint against TMC MP Mahua Moitra (Krishnanagar, West Bengal). It is reported that the parliamentary committee has also called BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who had filed the complaint against Mahua Moitra, for oral evidence.
The parliamentary committee will also listen to lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai on the same day (26 October). Nishikant Dubey has accused Moitra of taking bribe from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Modi.
In his complaint addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dubey alleged that, up to the recent point, 50 out of the 61 questions raised by the Trinamool MP in Parliament were aimed at safeguarding or perpetuating the business interests of Hiranandani and his conglomerate.
The BJP MP further asserted that Mahua Moitra provided the businessman in question with access to her Lok Sabha website login.
Dubey had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting him to constitute an inquiry committee to investigate this matter. In a letter to Om Birla, the BJP MP has alleged a serious breach of privilege, contempt of the House and direct involvement of Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra in the crime under section 120-A of the Indian Penal Code. On Tuesday, Speaker Om Birla had sent Dubey’s complaint letter to the Ethics Committee of the Lower House.
Mahua has urged Om Birla to form a committee to investigate the allegations against her while dismissing the charges as baseless. BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar is the Chairman of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee.
In order to stop Dubey, lawyer Dehadrai, and a number of media outlets and social media platforms from printing, disseminating, or posting any purportedly false or defamatory content against her, she filed a complaint with the Delhi High Court.
