Ranchi, July 20: The Pear Garden of the Agriculture Department in Netarhat was sold in the auction for Rs 50 lac during the annual auction. However, it was sold for Rs 24 lac in 2021. The garden has seen a more than double rise in value in the last year.
Notably, the value of the garden was estimated to be just Rs 5.65 lac in 2014-15 and has seen a whopping 10 times rise in its value in just eight years.
This time, a total of 17 business owners submitted their cheques to participate in the auction. The business owner from hindhpidi, Ranchi was the one who bid the highest amount for the garden and has been allowed to break pears from the trees.
JP Tiwari, field manager at Netarhat said that they informed the buyers about the auctions and also told them that this year the price of the fruit will be high.
“We informed the buyers about the output this year and also told them that it will be a profitable deal for them. There are gardens on both the sides of the road and they were auctioned for 23 lac and 27 lac respectively,” he said.
Moreover, More than 45-50 tonnes of pears are cultivated per day in the months of July and August every year. The current output has been around 50-55 tonnes. The rate of the pear in Ranchi is Rs 40 per kg whereas the imported pears from Amritsar are sold for Rs 80.
The garden was made in 1982-83 when Jharkhand was a part of Bihar. The garden was set up considering the climate of Netarhat. Initially, it was spread over 85 acres of land. However, currently it resides on 40 acres of land. It consists of around 5000 trees.
