New Delhi, March 3: Rahul Gandhi claimed at a talk at Cambridge University that the institutional framework necessary for democracy is becoming restricted and that the fundamental foundation of Indian democracy is being attacked. He added that Pegasus is being used by the government to spy on him.

The Cambridge Judge Business School’s (Cambridge JBS) visiting fellow Rahul Gandhi spoke to university students on “Learning to Listen in the 21st Century” during his lecture.

“Indian democracy is under attack. We are trying to defend an attack on democracy,” he said, adding that Pegasus was used by the government to spy on opposition leaders.

“I myself had Pegasus on my phone. A large number of politicians had Pegasus on their phones. I was told to be careful when I speak on the phone,” Rahul Gandhi told students of the university.

Rahul Gandhi charged the government in his lecture with enslavement, media and judicial control, surveillance, intimidation, attacks on minorities, Dalits, and Tribals, as well as stifling dissent.

Rahul Gandhi is on a week-long tour of the UK and will speak at Cambridge University about India-China ties, big data and democracy, and other topics. In addition to interacting with members of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) UK chapter, he will speak at a “Indian Diaspora Conference” that is scheduled to take place over the weekend in London.
