New Delhi, August 4: In the case involving the illegal and anti-national operations of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in Patna, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against four individuals.
Md Tanweer alias Md Tanweer, Md Aabid, Md Belal, and Md Irshad Alam, all residents of the East Champaran district of Bihar, have all been named in a new chargesheet filed before a special NIA court in the Patna district of Bihar.
The four PFI cadres were allegedly involved in preparing violent crimes by procuring weapons and ammunition and spreading the PFI’s violent extremist ideology and mission, according to the NIA.
They are facing charges under the Arms Act of 1959, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967, and several sections of the Indian Penal Code.
In total, 15 people have been detained, including the four PFI cadres who have been charged, for encouraging the prohibited organization’s illegal activities and directing illicit foreign funds to the PFI members and accused in this case.
Md. Irshad Alam is a member of the criminal organisation that, along with other PFI cadres, conspired to attack and kill a youth from a particular community in order to sow terror and racial hatred, according to NIA findings.
The anti-terror agency claimed that Md Tanweer and Md Abid already had the terrorist equipment needed to commit the hate crime and had given it to Yaqub Khan, one of the arrested accused.
“Yaqub is a PFI master trainer of weapons and tactics and had conducted multiple arms training sessions for furthering the banned outfit’s violent and unlawful activities,” said the NIA.
The case was first filed on July 12 of last year against 26 people at PS Phulwarisharif Police Station in Bihar’s Patna district. It was taken over and re-registered by the NIA on July 22 of last year.
In the case, where investigations are ongoing, the NIA filed a chargesheet against four people on January 7 of this year.
