New Delhi, March 15: A plea moved in Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging Karnataka High Court order dismissing various pleas challenging the ban on Hijab in educational institutes.
The High Court’s order is challenged in the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition. A Muslim student, filed the petition through Advocate-on-Record Anas Tanwir.
Notably, the Karnataka High Court ruled on Tuesday that wearing a hijab (a headscarf worn by Muslim women) is not an essential practice in Islam, dismissing several petitions contesting a ban on hijabs at educational institutions. The decision puts an end to a months-long debate in Karnataka, where students staged protests because they were not allowed to wear hijabs in educational institutions.
