New Delhi, Sept 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday renewed his call for reforms in international organizations, including the UN, noting that the number of permanent members of the Security Council has not changed despite a rise in the number of UN member nations.
The prime minister stated during the G20 Summit’s “One Future” session that a ‘new global structure’ needed to take into account the ‘new realities’ of the world.
Modi pointed out that the world has evolved significantly since the founding of the UN, which began with 51 member states. Today, the number of member states has surged to almost 200, he said.
Modi stated that it is a fundamental principle of nature that entities failing to adapt to changing times eventually become irrelevant.
Additionally, he stated that he was looking for international standards for regulating cryptocurrencies, which he described as a new subject for social order, monetary and financial stability.
