New Delhi, March 5: The Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would travel to the districts of Mandya and Hubballi-Dharwad in Karnataka, which are up for election on March 12.
As the ruling BJP strengthens its campaign in Karnataka, where elections are likely to take place by May, PM Modi has been visiting the state frequently since the beginning of the year to lay the groundwork for or inaugurate various projects and schemes. He has also been giving speeches at large public gatherings.
“Prime minister will be visiting Karnataka on March 12 to attend programmes at Maddur in Mandya district and thereafter by around 2 PM will land in Hubballi to inaugurate IIT Dharwad, following which will address a mega public meeting nearby,” Joshi said.
“In Maddur too it will be a first of its kind large scale public meet being organised. A private land has been taken for the meeting, as according to locals there is no such large ground in Mandya and nearby areas to accommodate the huge crowd that gathers when PM Modi comes,” he added.
To secure an absolute majority in the forthcoming elections, the BJP is concentrating on capturing additional seats in the Vokkaliga community’s “Old Mysuru” region, of which Mandya is a significant portion. The BJP is viewed as being weak in the area.
Joshi said that Mandya is a region where the BJP needs to be relatively strengthened. He recently met with officials and party members to discuss the plans for the PM’s visit, and the party men agreed that it will be a large-scale public gathering similar to those that have recently taken place in Belagavi and Hubballi-Dharwad.
The BJP will win with a clear majority, led by Modi, he continued, and there is no doubt that the state’s “double engine government” will continue. He also claimed that the mood in the state is shifting in favour of the BJP.
The last time PM Modi visited the region was on February 27 to open the airport in Shivamogga and to lay the groundwork for other development projects in Belagavi.
