New Delhi, August 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone through video conferencing on Sunday for the mega redevelopment project of 508 railway stations around the nation under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme.
A number of Union Ministers and the Chief Ministers or Governors of the states also participated in the foundation-laying ceremony where the respective railway stations are being completely renovated.
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, also attended the ceremony in Budgam.
The gigantic project is thought to be costing roughly Rs 25,000 crore.
These 508 stations are dispersed among 27 states and union territories, with 55 stations each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana and 13 in Karnataka among others.
In addition to providing modern passenger comforts, the redevelopment will provide well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration and well-designed signs for passenger navigation, according to an official release.
The architecture, heritage and culture of the region will provide as inspiration for the design of the station structures.
The Prime Minister welcomed the action earlier on Saturday and claimed that the initiative will improve “Ease of Living” and comfort in addition to convenience.
The redevelopment which will cost close to Rs 25,000 crore, will transform how the country views rail infrastructure, he said.
He has stressed the significance of offering top-notch services at railway stations, noting that trains are the nation’s most popular means of transportation.
To renovate 1,309 stations across the nation, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was introduced.
