New Delhi: Germany has announced plans to increase its annual quota for skilled labour visas for Indian professionals, raising the cap to 90,000 from the current 20,000. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed this development during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is visiting India for the third time. PM Modi hailed the move as a significant step toward mutual growth, highlighting how the collaboration will boost Indo-Pacific stability and worldwide progress.
A Boost for Indian Professionals
Germany’s visa expansion aims to bridge its workforce gaps across multiple sectors. As per the German Economic Institute, the nation has more than 5.7 lakh job vacancies. Germany also intends to streamline its visa procedures and enhance the recognition of Indian professional credentials, easing the transition for Indian workers in Germany.
Strengthening India-Germany Ties
In 2022, India and Germany signed a migration and mobility partnership agreement to support professional and student exchanges. This visa increase reflects the growing commitment to deepen economic and technological cooperation between the two nations.
