Police arrest GT road robbers with arms, 80 litres diesel

Dhanbad, Nov 29: Dhanbad police have claimed to have busted a gang involved in robbery on the inter-state  GT Road (NH-2) by arresting two armed criminals at Barwa under Barbadda police station of the district.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Amar Kumar Pandey, informing the media on Monday evening said that police beside arresting members of gang with arms, also seized two cars (Swift Dzire and Bolero) and 80 litres of diesel.

The arrested criminals were identified as Angad kumar Sonkar and Raju Sonkar. Two pistols were also recovered from their possession. Their other three accomplices managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of dark on the road.

The DSP said that the gang members used to rob the vehicles especially coal trucks running on GT road on gun point.

“After getting complaints of robbery on GT roads for last several days, police teams had been alerted. On Sunday night,  We received an information  that members of the gang were seen going towards Tundi block from Kenduadih by Swift Dzire and Bolero. The police team chased them and they were finally caught on GT Road at Barwa.,” said DSP Pandey who monitored the operation himself.

The arrested criminals admitted that they used to rob diesel from heavy vehicles, especially coal trucks after stopping them in Govindpur forest on gun point.
