Dhanbad March 29: A youth was arrested while breaking the cash box of Bandhan Bank ATM in broad daylight at the busy Steel Gate under Saraidhela police station of the coal city on Tuesday morning.
Police officials said that the arrested youth was identified as Faizan Ahmed, a resident of the Govindpur Upper Market area. His original residence is Akbarpur in Bihar’s Nawada district.
At around 10.30 a.m., he was trying to tamper with the ATM when some passersby and some customers noticed his movement inside the ATM chamber. As they raised an alarm, the youth fled towards the Steel Gate. However, people chased and caught him. They locked him in a roadside shop to save him from being beaten by the public.
After getting the information, a team from the Saraidhela police station reached the bank and took the youth into possession.
This was the third time in two months that criminals had attacked ATMs in Dhanbad. Earlier, on February 5, a few criminals had tried to uproot GT Road-based Kerala Bank ATM at Barwa under Govindpur police station.
On February 11, some criminals had taken away the cash box of the Bank of India ATM installed near BIT Sindri gate under Gaushala police station of the district.
Saraidhela police station officer in-charge Kishore Tirki said that the arrested youth is being interrogated. “Only after his interrogation, the involvement of his gang in other incidents could be ascertained,” said Kishore Tirki.
