Dhanbad, Nov 20: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar has put police officers’ behaviour of all 47 police stations and OPs of the Dhanbad district under scanner for enhancing the image of police among the public.
Launching the month-long (November 20 to December 20) ‘Public Service’ campaign which is the first of its kind in the district, the SSP today said, “We have to develop such a system in which common people trust the police and get their complaints redressed immediately.”
“For establishing a cordial relation between police and public, it is necessary that the attitude of the officers should be positive and they should react duly on complaints of people at police stations,” he said.
He also stated that people come to police stations with the hope of getting reprieve of their grievances. If police officers would hear and act duly, obviously the trust of people in them will enhance.
During the ‘Public Service’ campaign, a track will be kept on how many complaints are lodged at which police station, how many complaints are resolved by the officers immediately and how many are put on the pending. The campaign will also keep an eye on whether a list of complainants is being prepared at the police station or not.
“Whether a complaint is big or small, a police officer must register it at the police station,” he said, adding that he would himself hold a weekly review of the campaign of each police station and engage other senior officers for the same to get the desired result.
“The month-long campaign will not only establish cordial relations between police and public but also help in checking crime incidents,” he observed.
The seriousness of the SSP for establishing cordial relations between police and public was reflected at the meeting when he sacked the officer-in-charge of Loyabad and Dhansar police stations on charges of misbehaving with the public.
