Daltonganj, Aug 4: People of Palamu are now buying national flags from post offices which are made in Gujarat’s Surat. These polyester flags are made by Grasim Industries Surat and are being sold at Rs 25 each.
However, its finish is poor in comparison to the flags being made by the Sakhi Mandals at the Koel Aajeevika Apparel Park in Chainpur which are of good quality fabric and is priced at only Rs 18 per flag, thus 7 rupees cheaper per flag than the Surat brand Tiranga.
The Apparel Park Tiranga is yet to reach the sale centre here while the Surat’s Tiranga is making a fast buck for the post offices pan Jharkhand.
Lagatar24.com correspondent on Thursday went to the registered post office at Belwatiker in Daltonganj where the man at the post office counter said, “We are selling Tirangas Rs 25 per flag.”
He said it was the second day of the sale of the flags in this post office when on the first day, only 2 flags were sold while today, it was a 10-fold high sale. “Buyers are coming and their number is set to swell in the coming days,” he said.
The road distance between Surat and Daltonganj is more than 1,500 km and it belies all logic as to why flags of from such a far-off place are being marketed through the post offices pan Jharkhand.
