Ranchi, Jan.15: The body of a 9-year-old child was recovered from Ranchi Lake under Kotwali police station area in the heart of the state capital.

The recovery took place today morning after morning walkers noticed the body floating and informed the police.

Primary investigation suggested that the boy died after his mother committed suicide by jumping into lake with him on Wednesday.

“The boy was identified as Rishi Banerjee. His mother Tana Banerjee’s body was recovered on Thursday. They had left her rented house at Devi Mandap Road on Wednesday after some dispute in the family,” officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Shailesh Kumar said.

Asked Kumar what prompted the family dispute, OC Kumar said: “Lady’s husband Kaushik Banerjee used to work as a salesman. Despite having a low income, he had a habit of consuming liquor. The lady was very much frustrated with this situation.”
