New Delhi, Nov 6: At the BWF Para Badminton World Championships in Tokyo on Sunday, India earned two gold medals thanks to victories by Pramod Bhagat and Manisha Ramadass in their respective finals in straight games.
Bhagat, who entered the court first, defeated fellow countryman Nitesh Kumar 21-19 21-19 in 53 minutes to win the men’s singles SL3 gold medal. Then, the 17-year-old Manisha completed her ideal debut by defeating Mamiko Toyoda of Japan 21-15 21-15 to win the women’s singles SU5 division.
The men’s doubles SL3-SL4 team of Bhagat and Manoj Sarkar, however, had to settle for a silver medal.
The Indonesian team of Hikmat Ramdani and Ukun Rukaendi defeated the Indian team despite having a game advantage, losing 21-14, 18-21, and 13-21.
