Tezpur, April 8: President Droupadi Murmu took off in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet at the Tezpur Air Force base in Assam on Saturday for her first flight in a jet. During her three-day stay in the state, the President went on a sortie.

On April 7, President Droupadi Murmu opened Kaziranga National Park and signalled the start of the Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition-2023 after arriving in Assam on April 6. After opening the two-day “Gaj Festival” in the park on Friday, she also attended the event to celebrate the Gauhati High Court’s 75 years in Guwahati.
Earalier in 2009, former president Pratibha Patil flew in the frontline fighter aircraft. When they were presidents of India, APJ Abdul Kalam and Ramnath Kovind flew comparable flights in Sukhoi 30 fighter aircraft at the IAF base in Pune, Maharashtra.
