Patna, June 22: Janata Dal United declared on Wednesday that it would support Draupadi Murmu, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
On Tuesday, BJP national president JP Nadda announced Draupadi Murmu’s selection for the position.
Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, has expressed his joy over Draupadi Murmu’s nomination for the position of NDA president. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had informed him about Draupadi Murmu’s selection as the NDA’s presidential candidate on Tuesday evening.
“It is a pleasure to have Draupadi Murmu as the presidential candidate. She is a tribal woman. It is a matter of great happiness that a tribal woman has been nominated for the highest post of the country. She has been a minister in the Government of Odisha and then governor of Jharkhand. Yesterday, PM informed that Draupadi Murmu is being made the presidential candidate. Heartfelt thanks to the PM for this,” said CM Nitish Kumar in a tweet.

But it was Rajeev Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, the national president of the JDU, who officially announced that the party was endorsing Draupadi Murmu for the position of president.
“Janata Dal United welcomes and supports the candidature of Draupadi Murmu,” tweeted Lalan Singh.
