Dhanbad Oct 27: Private hospitals and health clinics of Dhanbad would down their shutters for an indefinite period in protest against the sealing of a nursing home and cancellation of the license of a doctor by the health department.
Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dhanbad chapter on Wednesday afternoon said that the health department has arbitrarily closed Bank More based Chakravarti Nursing Home for two months and suspended the license of Dr D Chakravarti on alleged charges of medical negligence.
IMA Dhanbad president Dr Major Chandan and secretary Dr Sushil Kumar in the late afternoon told media persons that Nursing Home has been closed under Clinical Establishment Act and the license of Dr Chakravarti has been cancelled on a charge of Medical Misconduct.
“ Clinical Establishment Act is temporary in the state and medical fraternity has been demanding keeping 50 beds health centre out of the Act. But the Health Department acted one-sided. So private hospitals are compelled to down the shutter,” announced Dr Major Chandan.
IMA would hold its executive body meeting tonight to decide the date of the strike.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shyam Kant Prasad on the directive of the state health department locked Chakravarti Nursing Home on Sunday for two months and served notice of Dr Chakravarti’s license cancellation.
The health department has taken the action over alleged medical negligence of a Bokaro district patient committed in June 2019. The patient later died in a private hospital in Ranchi.
“The health department can take action against the doctor if he has committed medical misconduct, but closing down the Nursing home is not fair. Because all private nursing homes and health clinics would be closed if Clinical Establishment Act guidelines are followed as they have not enough fund to adhere to guidelines,” said Dr Major Chandan and Dr Sushil Kumar.
The IMA president and the secretary said that the state government is trying to bully doctors and health staff across the state. Government doctors, as well as health staff, have been agitating against the arbitrary order of the State government in Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad, and other districts. Now private doctors and nursing homes are being made targets.
