Dumka, Oct 27: The Jharkhand Sewa Sadan Nursing Home situated at Barharwa block headquarters in Sahebganj district has been sealed following such administrative direction issued on Wednesday in connection with the alleged loss of vision of over one and half dozen persons having undergone cataract surgery therein.
The medical officer of the community health centre of Barharwa, Sarita Tudu, sealed the said hospital on the directive of the deputy commissioner of Sahebganj Ramniwas Yadav to the civil surgeon Dr Arvind Kumar who had constituted a six-member enquiry committee on October 23 to probe the alleged negligence on the part of the private hospital in question.
So far nearly one and half dozen persons including women have turned up to complain regarding the loss of vision which they realised only after the removal of the bandages who are now being treated at Kolkata and Ranchi-based eye hospitals for recovery.
“A detailed probe into the conduct of Barharwa based Jharkhand Sewa Sadan Nursing Home is still underway following which an FIR against its management and the doctor who performed the surgery will also be lodged if so necessitated,” the DC said, adding the existing probe report had found lack of suitable infrastructural facilities in the hospital.
The DC further said that the hospital management had failed to furnish exact figures of the Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries to the probe committee and that number of such cataract patients might go up.
“The matter appears to be more of the non-recovery or for that matter improvement of the vision of those patients even after they underwent cataract surgery than the loss of vision,” he said adding that all such victims would be treated at a Ranchi-based eye hospital.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren who was on a two-day visit to Sahebganj on October 25-26 was too apprised of the matter. He directed Yadav to take necessary steps to treat the victims and suitable action against the private hospital.
