Islamabad, March 5: Imran Khan’s arrest warrant in connection with the Toshakhana case was presented by Islamabad Police when they showed up at his Zaman Park mansion in Lahore on Sunday, according to state news outlet Geo News.
Days before, a sessions court had issued an arrest warrant for him in the Toshakhana case that was non-bailable due to his frequent failure to show up for court.
To prevent Imran Khan’s potential arrest, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has urged all party members to visit his home right away. According to the Geo News sources the ousted PM will be arrested after all the legal requirements are fulfilled.
Imran Khan was accused of selling presents that he got from the Toshakhana state storehouse while serving as prime minister illegally. He was supposed to show up for the case’s hearing last week, but he didn’t. After visiting three courts during the day, his attorneys had stated that they would ask the court to throw out the warrant if he failed to show up for the hearing.
Imran Khan is required by the arrest warrant to appear in court by March 7 after being taken into custody. According to a report by Geo News, the Inspector General of Islamabad has given the go-ahead for Imran Khan’s arrest today.
