New Delhi: Hamza Burhan, one of the masterminds behind the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, has been shot dead in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Unknown assailants riddled him with bullets while he was sitting in his office, killing him on the spot.

How the Attack Happened

According to information available, Hamza Burhan was in his office in POK when a group of individuals arrived and opened fire on him. He died on the spot. Hamza used to present himself as a teacher in Pakistan while continuing his terror activities.

His Role in the Pulwama Attack

The Pulwama terror attack took place on February 14, 2019, when Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist and local Kashmiri youth Adil Ahmad Dar rammed an SUV loaded with 300 to 350 kg of IED into a CRPF convoy bus, killing 40 CRPF jawans. Hamza Burhan was one of the key planners behind the attack. He was a resident of Ratnipura in Pulwama and had moved to Pakistan in 2017.

Continued Terror Activities After Pulwama

Sources say Hamza Burhan remained involved in several terror incidents after 2019, providing training to various terrorist organisations in different parts of POK and facilitating the infiltration of terrorists across the border into India.

India Had Responded With Operation Balakot

Following the Pulwama attack, India had launched Operation Balakot, in which the Indian Air Force struck and destroyed terror camps inside Pakistan.
