Chandigarh/New Delhi, Oct 31: As part of a probe into money laundering connected to drugs, the Enforcement Directorate searched several places in Punjab on Tuesday, including the premises of AAP MLA Kulwant Singh, according to official sources.
The federal investigation agency is covering locations in Mohali, Amritsar, and Ludhiana, accompanied by a contingent of central paramilitary forces personnel.
They stated that the premises connected to SAS Nagar Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Singh, 61, in Mohali, are also being covered.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is acting in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is said to be predicated on a Punjab Police First Information Report (FIR) concerning a drug trafficking and narcotics case.
The MLA recently made news after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was asked by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit to take “strict action” against the legislator’s real estate company, which was involved in two projects that were reportedly in violation of environmental regulations.
Singh owns Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL), which is developing the two projects in Mohali.
