When Eoin Morgan guided England to their home World Cup victory in 2019, Bayliss served as the team’s head coach. Having won two IPL championships, a Big Bash League (BBL) championship with the Sydney Sixers, and the 2019 World Cup with England, Bayliss will add valuable expertise to the team.
“I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware,” said Bayliss.
Anil Kumble, a legendary player for India, was replaced by Bayliss after the team chose not to renew his three-year contract because he failed to advance to the playoffs during that time.
Punjab lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, their lone final appearance in IPL history.
Punjab Kings have finished sixth in each of the previous four IPL seasons. Mayank Agarwal replaced KL Rahul as captain for this year’s competition, although he failed to perform as expected with the bat. Prior to the IPL 2022, Punjab only kept Mayank and Arshdeep Singh as active players.
