Amritsar, Jan 29: Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has filed his nomination from the Amritsar East assembly constituency ahead of the Punjab election.
After filing his nomination Sidhu said, “I don’t want to turn “Loktantra (democracy) into Dandatantra” (force). This city had, have and will continue to have its faith in the Congress.”
On the other hand, Sidhu’s name fell into controversy on Friday when Suman Toor, Sidhu’s sister, described her brother as a “cruel person.” Suman claimed that after their father died, Sidhu abandoned their elderly mother for financial gain.
Suman claimed that when their father died in 1986, Sidhu drove her and their mother out of the house. Their mother died impoverished in the Delhi railway station in 1989. She told the reporters in Chandigarh on Friday that he “finished everything for the sake of money,” days before Punjab voters elect a new administration.
“My father had left assets including a house, land besides pension. Navjot Singh Sidhu deserted my mother for the sake of money. We do not want any money from Sidhu,” she opined.
Meanwhile earlier today, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala lashed out the BJP, saying that the saffron party’s assets increased by 550% and the poor and the middle class in the country got poorer.
