New Delhi, July 17: In the women’s singles championship match at the Singapore Open 2022, India’s PV Sindhu defeated China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 to claim her maiden title in Singapore and third title in 2022.

The two-time Olympic medalist dominated the first game before dropping the second one. As the game entered overtime, Sindhu skillfully recovered to win her first 500 championship of 2022. Wang Zhi Yi fought valiantly all the way to the end, but Sindhu’s early lead in the final game was key to the latter’s triumph. To advance to the summit event, Sindhu had earlier defeated Saena Kawakami of Japan 21-15, 21-7 in a 32-minute semifinal encounter.

After winning the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open BWF Super 300 titles, Sindhu also happens to win the Singapore Open 2022, giving her three victories in the 2022 campaign.
