New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has accused the Modi government and Election Commission of facilitating voter fraud wherever SIR (Systematic Investigation of Roll) is implemented. He cited Gujarat as a key example, calling the process not administrative but a planned, strategic operation to steal votes.
Thousands of Objections Filed with Same Name
Rahul Gandhi claimed that thousands of objections were filed using identical names, with targeted deletion of voters from certain communities and pro-Congress booths. He alleged that in regions where BJP sensed defeat, voters were deliberately removed from rolls—pointing to similar patterns in Anand and Rajura. According to him, the SIR model is being replicated in multiple states like Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Election Commission Now a Participant, Not a Watchdog
Gandhi further alleged that SIR has been weaponized to suppress the constitutional right of one person, one vote. He accused the BJP of manipulating who stays in power, while the Election Commission, instead of acting as a democratic watchdog, has become complicit in the voter fraud scheme.
Mass Objections Filed in Gujarat After Rahul’s Allegations
The Congress party stated that after Rahul Gandhi exposed voter fraud, BJP escalated the alleged manipulation in Gujarat. Despite the 18 January deadline for voter objections under SIR, a sudden flood of lakhs of Form 7 objections were submitted. The Election Commission reportedly accepted over 1.2 million objections, many of which target specific communities and regions, with names and signatures not matching.
Congress Questions EC’s Silence
Congress claimed that when it sought clarification from the Election Commission, it received no response, exposing the EC’s compromised accountability. The party accused the Commission of surrendering its responsibility to those in power but vowed to defend India’s democracy and voting rights.
